This last weekend, Ryan and I drove up to Grand Rapids, Michigan, for a long weekend. It was so wonderful to actually take a day off work. We left Thursday night and got back Sunday evening. The weather was overcast, rainy, and cold... just like I remembered it!Actually, in spite of the dreary weather, the leaves were peaking this weekend, so we saw an abundance of brightly colored trees everywherewe went. This truly is one of the most beautiful times of year in Michigan. There are a whole lot of apple orchards in the area, and this was apple-pickin' time. Our friends gave us some freshly picked apples (I had never heard of Honeycrisp apples before, but they're great!) and some homemade applesauce. We had apple crisp for lunch at another friend's house. Mmmmm!
It was also really good to visit with my relatives. Ryan and I spent a day with
my Uncle Jay and Aunt Arlene, Uncle Dean and Aunt Carol, and my cousin Sarah. My Uncle Jay is 77, and he and my aunt are about to move into a retirement home. They're excited, but a little sad, since they know it will be their last move.

We got to visit with Ryan's best friend Mike and his wife, Katie, as well. All in all, it was a wonderful weekend away!
