At the end of July, our friends the Oldenburgers came down from Chicago for their annual visit. It happened to be right around the time of Ryan's birthday, so I decided to make Ryan an "Atomic Cake". Apparently there's some bakery that makes this up in Chicago. I had never seen an Atomic Cake, but I managed to find a recipe online. Basically, an Atomic Cake is a three layer cake: yellow cake, topped by banana pudding and bananas; chocolate cake, covered in chocolate pudding and strawberries; and white cake, covered in vanilla pudding. The whole thing is covered in whipped topping for icing. Unfortunately, the cake didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped, but it sure tasted good while it lasted!
