Ryan in front of the "Ringstrasse", (the "Ring Street"), the loop around the old city where buildings were constructed 100 years ago, where the city walls had previously stood (to keep the Turks out!) Although all the public buildings were built around the turn of the century, the architectural style was dubbed the "Historical" style, because each building reflected the architectural style best representative of what the building was. For instance, the University was built using a Renaissance-era architectural style, reflective of the age of reason. | Ryan in front of the Stephansdom, or "St. Stephen's Cathedral" |
The Vienna "Rathaus", or city hall, built in Gothic style, representing the architectural style used during the era of city-states in Europe. | The Parliament building, with its Greek architectural style, harkening back to the days of early democracy. |
